1. Complete Step 1: About You

Use your NYCDOE email address. Google will use this address to send login credentials if you forget

your GAFE login or password.

2. Complete Step 2: Your Institution Address: This is your school's domain name. If you have one

already, select Use a domain name I have already purchased. To purchase a domain name for the

first time:

1. Select Buy a new domain now.

2. Select .org from the dropdown menu and click Check Availability.

3. Enter the address of your school.

4. Click Next.

Note: As part of the set-up process, you will be asked to verify that you own the domain. You

have 14 days to do this or your domain will be removed. Refer to Google's instructions on

verifying domain names.

3. Complete Step 3: Your Education Account

1. Enter your username.

2. Enter your password.

3. Prove you are not a robot!

4. Check “I have read and agree to the Google Apps for Business agreement.”

5. You will be the first person to have an account on your GAFE domain and automatically be

given admin rights. Add your students, faculty, and other administrators later.

4. You have now signed up for regular Google Apps.

● You will receive an email from Google when your account has been verified. The next time you log in

to your admin console, you will be prompted through a process that automatically upgrades your

account to GAFE. To complete that process you'll need to find out where your Domain Name Server

(DNS) settings are kept. (However, if you just purchased a domain as part of the GAFE sign-up, this

part will happen automatically.)

● If you have an existing website, DNS settings might be managed by the host of your site. You can go

to www.networksolutions.com/whois and look up your school's domain name. The company or

organization that owns the domain name will be where you can find your school’s account information

(including the DNS settings). Perform another whois lookup on the nameservers and it should

indicate the provider that controls your DNS settings. For more information, review Google's help

5. Access your admin console

● Once you’ve set up GAFE, the Google Apps Admin Console displays. You can also access the admin

console through the grid icon in the top right-hand corner of your browser when logged into any

Google service.
